Real Madrid Extend La Liga Lead After Winning Sociedad

Real Madrid came back from a goal down to beat Real Sociedad 4-1 and surge clear at the summit of the La Liga standings. James Rodriguez and Sergio Ramos both scored to pull Carlo Anceloti’s side back from a 1st-minute Aritz Elustondo strike before Karim Benzema twice scored in the second period to wrap up victory and send the host four points clear of Bacelona, who host Villarreal on Sunday.

David Moyes’ Sociedad have now suffered two defeats in their last six league outings and are 11th in the table, six points clear of the drop zone.
Sociedad drew the first blood with an Aritz Elustondo headed goal after only 38 seconds
but James Rodriguez planted home an excellent header from a Marcelo cross to restore parity in the 3rd minute.
The Los Blancos, who were without the suspended Cristiano Ronaldo, pushed for a lead goal with Gareth Bale twice going close before Sergio Ramos struck five minutes to
the break. The Spaniard latched on to a loose ball in the 18 yard to smash in his
sixth goal of the campaign.
Bale threw caution to the wind again before the break with the goal yawning for the ball
before eventually turning provider for Karim Benzema in the 51st minute, setting up the
Frenchman who found the bottom corner with his left-foot effort.
The third goal added bite to the Spanish league leaders’ game and they were chewing
a fourth goal 25 minutes later, when Benzema received Isco’s pass to complete his brace, poking into the top corner.
Benzema has now scored against Sociedad in their last four meetings and boats of 17 goals in all competitions.
