Commonwealth Games: Chika Amalaha’s B test positive

The 16-year-old Nigerian weightlifter has again tested positive for illegal substance in B Sample.

Chika Amalaha, who came up as a winner at
the women’s 53kg competition held
Saturday, now might be stri*ped of her
Commonwealth Games gold medal at the
today’s hearing, Sky Sports.
It would be recalled that the athlete was
susoended Tuesday as she tested positive
for diuretics and masking agents in Sample
A, following which she immediately requested
Sample B.
CGF chief executive Mike Hooper has today
revealed that the second test also showed
traces of the substances amiloride and
hydrochlorothiazide (both banned by the
World Anti-Doping Agency).
Nigerians were widely celebrating Chika’s
victory because she became the youngest
ever female to win a weightlifting title at a
Commonwealth Games.
Now if the hearing ends up negatively for the
16-year-old, her medal might be awarded to
Dika Toua of Papua New Guinea.
